Shawn Van Every

Teacher
NYU's Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITU)

Shawn Van Every is a Teacher in NYU's Interactive Telecommunications Program.  His academic research focus is on emerging technologies related to media creation, distribution and interaction. His projects generally involve development of tools that help to make low cost media making, distribution and interactivity possible. Specifically he works with online audio/video and mobile devices.

His teaching is varied and includes courses on participatory and social media, programming, mobile technologies and interactive  telephony.

Recently Shawn was honored with the David Payne Carter award for excellence in teaching.

He has demonstrated, exhibited and presented work at many conferences and technology demonstrations including O'Reilly's Emerging Telephony, O'Reilly's Emerging Technology, ACM Multimedia, Vloggercon and Strong Angel II. He was a co-organizer of the Open Media Developers Summit, Beyond Broadcast (2006)and iPhoneDevCamp NYC.

Additionally, Shawn runs a consultancy to help companies better utilize technology for putting audio and video on the internet. His clients have ranged from Disney and Morgan Stanley to many start-ups.

Shawn holds a Master's degree in Interactive Telecommunications from NYU and a Bachelor's degree in Media Study from SUNY at Buffalo.

Paul Woidke

Paul Woidke joined OpenTV in May 2008 as Senior Vice President and General Manager, Advanced Advertising. Paul is tasked with evolving OpenTV’s advanced advertising business both in the US and internationally. Paul was most recently with Comcast Spotlight and brings with him more than 30 years of cable and broadcast experience. During his six-year tenure at Comcast Spotlight, Paul was charged with creating technology standards and best practices across the company's footprint of more than 90 markets.

Prior to Comcast Spotlight, Paul was Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for Adlink, the nation's leading digital cable interconnect. He has served on various industry committees including those of the Cable Advertising Bureau and CableLabs. Presently, he chairs the SCTE Digital Video Subcommittee's "Working Group Five (DPI)" which has played a leading role in the development of international digital program and advertising insertion standards. Paul is the recipient of the 2006 SCTE Excellence in Standards Award and is also a frequent industry speaker.

Youssef Tuma

Youssef (Sef) Tuma is a senior executive in Accenture's Media & Entertainment and Cable industry groups where he is a lead in Accenture's global Digital Media practice. He has over 13 years experience leading and delivering large innovative technology programs and driving associated business strategies.  With Sef's deep media industry expertise, he has been on the forefront of transformational initiatives.

For over the past decade, Sef has been instrumental in helping define and build Accenture's digital content services practice, including developing assets, authoring points of view, establishing and managing relationships with emerging media and technology companies, and delivering strategic engagements.

Sef has been responsible for leading engagements that pioneered new technologies or applied existing technologies in innovative ways.   This includes helping a leading global entertainment company define and execute to its vision for becoming a high performance media company, delivering leading edge digital content services capabilities for content creation through distribution, working with a premium cable network in pioneering online video distribution services, assisting a leading interactive entertainment company in launching a new online gaming business, and guiding a network operator in transforming its automation capabilities using low-cost IT technology.
Sef graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Erin Hunter

Erin Hunter runs the Custom Solutions Practice for comScore, overseeing all custom research for the Media, Technology, Retail, CPG, and Pharma businesses for the company.  In this role, Erin manages the business units responsible for delivering marketplace insights and marketing intelligence for comScore’s blue-chip clients including Microsoft, Google, Yahoo!, Platform A, Intel, Apple, and hundreds of others.   Erin joined comScore in 1999  and has served on comScore’s Executive Committee since 2006.  She is a seasoned industry analyst, with a background  in marketing, marketing research, statistical modeling, and media consulting.

Prior to joining comScore, Ms. Hunter spent eight years at MMA, a media consultancy in Westport, Connecticut where she used the company’s proprietary regression-based methodology to quantify the return on clients on investment in traditional marketing vehicles.  Ms. Hunter had responsibility for engaging and growing relationships with numerous blue chip clients, including Clorox, RadioShack, Procter & Gamble, Nestlé Purina Pet Care, and many others.  As Senior Vice President, Ms. Hunter led a landmark effort between MMA, Information Resources, Inc. and Nielsen Media Research to measure the ROI of TV advertising on over 1,000 consumer packaged goods brands.  The results of this broad study – titled How Advertising Works 2 - were widely published and utilized within the media industry.
 

Jon Heller

Jon Heller currently serves as co-founder and co-CEO of FreeWheel.  Prior to founding the video monetization technology company in 2007, Jon was responsible for Yahoo!’s ad network businesses, designing the company’s next generation display advertising platform.  Before being recruited to Yahoo!, Jon served as COO and CFO of Visible World, a dynamic, television ad serving technology company.  Jon first entered the internet advertising world as a local advertising product manager for DoubleClick in 1997 and grew to become the operating officer and P&L manager for the DoubleClick Network.   Jon had public company P&L responsibilities for $300mm in revenue and a 600-person media business operating in 26 countries.  Jon holds an MBA from the University of Chicago and a BSE from the Wharton School.

Mr. Feldman has 15 years of experience in high volume transactional analytics and measurement, pattern recognition and fraud detection.

Meredith Flynn-Ripley

Meredith Flynn-Ripley has spent the majority of her career building and
leading new companies. Prior to MediaFriends, Meredith served as
president and CEO of three private software companies in the Boston
area: Stargus (now ARRIS), a broadband cable network management software
company with customers such as Time-Warner Cable and UPC; Seaport
Software Solutions (now part of Microsoft), a company specializing in
application delivery and management technology for Fortune 100
enterprises; and Into Networks, which provides a software-on-demand
technology platform designed exclusively for broadband networks.

Meredith was a founding member of Road Runner, the high speed data joint
venture of Time Warner, MediaOne (now Comcast), Microsoft and Compaq
(now HP), where she served as vice president of Corporate Development.
Prior to Road Runner, Meredith was vice president of Product Development
at MediaOne Broadband Internet Services. In that position she was
responsible for product management of MediaOne Express, the company's
high speed data service, and DiveIn its local online programming
initiative.

Earlier in her career, Meredith held senior management positions at US
WEST Communications, including head of Content Strategy for the
Interactive Television trial in Omaha. She pioneered the interactive
media and technology space starting back in 1985 at Ogilvy & Mather
Interactive, working with clients such as American Express and AT&T in
mediums including online services and interactive television.
